Annual Christmas Party at Martha’s

Filed under: Daily Life at Osborne, Parties at Osborne — Melody @ 11:02 am

The Albeas (Martha and her husband Todd) hosted our annual Christmas party on Saturday evening.  In addition to the really great food that Martha serves up every year, the Christmas party is a great opportunity to enjoy the company of our coworkers in a more casual setting.  About 30 of us attended in all, employees and spouses (and one precious baby!Congratulations to Cindy J. and her husband Barry!)

The evening began with feasting, and Martha prepared so much good food for us!

Above: Will (left), Rachel (center), and Haden (right) work their way through the line, while Martha (back left) and Sherry (back right) enjoy the sight.

Then, during and after the meal, some socialized, but many of us broke off into different games.  The table I was sitting at played Cranium Zigity, and then Apples to Apples.  Another table played Uno.  But these were really only to ready our competitive streaks for the real game…

Below: Will studies the instructions for Apples to Apples, while Rachel prepares the cards and Christian engages in conversation.

The Game:  The ladies each brought a gift geared toward the ladies, the men each brought gifts fit for men, and everything was put together in the center of the room, as we sat in a circle around it.  Everyone drew numbers.  Starting with No. 1 and moving down the line, a person would go to the tree for a gift.  If you wanted a gift that someone else had, you could take it instead of going to the tree.  If you took someone else’s gift, they could either take another gift from someone else, or go to the tree.  This game is both incredibly fierce, and way too much fun!

Below:  One of the most fought over items was this lovely (and warm-looking) blanket.

And Finally, this is what I get for putting the camera down - Jeff picks it up.  Behind me, from left to right:  JR, Christian, Carl, Haden, Telcia, Spencer, Alan, Martha, Jonathan, Janice.

We had a great time!  Thank you, Martha, for having us all over.

Manufacturer of the Year Nomination

Osborne Wood Products, Inc. was recently nominated for Manufacturer of the Year! The following is the press release that was issued concerning the nomination:

OSBORNE WOOD PRODUCTS NOMINATED FOR MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR

Osborne Wood Products of Toccoa was honored as a nominee for Manufacturer of the Year at the Awards Luncheon for Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW) in Georgia held at Cobb Galleria in Atlanta on April 17. Osborne was nominated by North Georgia Technical College for Manufacturer of the Year in the small-company category (0 - 150 employees).

Dr. Judy Taylor, Vice President of Economic Development of North Georgia Technical College, presented the plaque to Leon Osborne, President, and members of his Management Team at the Toccoa facility on Friday, May 16.

“We at Osborne consider it an honor to be nominated for the manufacturer-of-the-year award. It is only as a result of the efforts and dedication of our associates that we would ever come to the place of being considered for such recognition. We are grateful for the opportunities we have had to serve our community, staff, suppliers and customers in the past years; and look forward to building these relationships in the future,” Leon Osborne stated.

Over 100 companies throughout Georgia were nominated for this honor, and all were recognized at the luncheon. Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle was the keynote speaker, and PBS’s Richard Warner served as master of ceremonies.

The criteria for the award include Economic Impact, Workforce Excellence, and Corporate Responsibility. “Osborne exemplifies these criteria, and we take pride in the company being our nominee,” stated Dr. Taylor. “Osborne Wood Products is an example of the true American dream,” Taylor further noted. “This company started small and overcame many obstacles – Including a fire. It is now marketing internationally.”

The recognition event emphasizes the significance of all manufacturing to the economy of Georgia and the nation and pays tribute to the more than 10,000 manufacturing facilities located in Georgia. Manufacturing provides 450,622 jobs, contributing more than $100 billion to the state’s economy each year.

This marked the 14th year celebrating Manufacturing Appreciation Week in Georgia. More than 1,000 business and industry leaders from around the state attended.
Here are a few pictures of the award actually being presented to Leon Osborne and the production team!:

Rachel brought a game to play, and here’s a picture of them playing it. Though I guess you can’t see the cards too well.

It was pretty funny watching the guys open presents, because they kept getting stuff that was more fitting for a lady, such as a necklace. Which is all part of the fun!

Tomorrow is Osborne Wood Products, Inc.’s official Christmas Dinner. I will post pictures of that later.

Merry Christmas to all! And to all a good night.

Today we had a goodbye party for David, whose been working out in shipping with us for a while now. A few weeks ago Klista was highered to work on the lathes. I’m drooling. ;-) Me and power tools. And now we have hired Hank and Nathan. Hank will also work on the lathes. He’s run a metal lathe before at Fanello Industries Inc. Nathan will be working in shipping, helping to cover for David. He’s done rescue swimming with the coast Guard for one year. Sweet! So I guess if we have a flood here we’ll be in good hands.

David, its been great working with you. And to the rest of you, welcome aboard!

Here’s a picture of Jeremy and Jonathan digging in!

We’re going to miss having Jeremy work with us, but he will still be helping us with our shows. He designed the booth which we took to Las Vegas, and that booth also won an award for being the best designed for the size space it was for. Totally awesome!

Well Jeremy is moving on to work at a school. I hope it goes well for you Jeremy!
God bless !

B-day’s

Filed under: Birthdays at Osborne, Parties at Osborne — Mary Beth @ 4:00 pm

Last Friday we celebrated my dad’s birthday with some awesome cake, compliments of Martha. :-) We didn’t have forks at first so we kind-of used our fingers until someone found forks. Today we celebrated David’s birthday, although it was also last Friday. Dad decided that since he and David shared a birthday that he only had to age half a year. I personally think that’s cheating… but whatever floats his boat.

Here’s my dad eating cake with his fingers. And I was absentminded today and forgot David was having cake so I didn’t get his picture on here. Sorry.

Happy birthday you guys!

Last Week’s News

Filed under: Parties at Osborne — Mary Beth @ 1:48 pm

The other week the office broke their record by 5 orders, I believe. Carlos brought it to the attention of the office personnel because they were so busy working they didn’t notice the record being broken. :-D Great office crew!

So last week we had a Sub-way party!

Also Dad took me out to the shop to help him some. So I got to use the planer and since the piece was so large, we had to glue the boards by hand.
