Osborne Wood Products, Inc. was recently nominated for Manufacturer of the Year! The following is the press release that was issued concerning the nomination:
OSBORNE WOOD PRODUCTS NOMINATED FOR MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
Osborne Wood Products of Toccoa was honored as a nominee for Manufacturer of the Year at the Awards Luncheon for Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW) in Georgia held at Cobb Galleria in Atlanta on April 17. Osborne was nominated by North Georgia Technical College for Manufacturer of the Year in the small-company category (0 - 150 employees).
Dr. Judy Taylor, Vice President of Economic Development of North Georgia Technical College, presented the plaque to Leon Osborne, President, and members of his Management Team at the Toccoa facility on Friday, May 16.
“We at Osborne consider it an honor to be nominated for the manufacturer-of-the-year award. It is only as a result of the efforts and dedication of our associates that we would ever come to the place of being considered for such recognition. We are grateful for the opportunities we have had to serve our community, staff, suppliers and customers in the past years; and look forward to building these relationships in the future,” Leon Osborne stated.
Over 100 companies throughout Georgia were nominated for this honor, and all were recognized at the luncheon. Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle was the keynote speaker, and PBS’s Richard Warner served as master of ceremonies.
The criteria for the award include Economic Impact, Workforce Excellence, and Corporate Responsibility. “Osborne exemplifies these criteria, and we take pride in the company being our nominee,” stated Dr. Taylor. “Osborne Wood Products is an example of the true American dream,” Taylor further noted. “This company started small and overcame many obstacles – Including a fire. It is now marketing internationally.”
The recognition event emphasizes the significance of all manufacturing to the economy of Georgia and the nation and pays tribute to the more than 10,000 manufacturing facilities located in Georgia. Manufacturing provides 450,622 jobs, contributing more than $100 billion to the state’s economy each year.
This marked the 14th year celebrating Manufacturing Appreciation Week in Georgia. More than 1,000 business and industry leaders from around the state attended.

In looking into this weekly featured item series, I’m realizing that we need your help! We have pictures that a great deal of our customers have sent us, with beautifully finished and installed products; however, we need more! If you have any high-resolution pictures of projects you’ve completed with our legs, corbels, or various other items; please send them to me! You can email them to “turn (at) alltel . net” (remove spaces, and replace “(at)” with @. One minor effort against spam crawlers). Just put “Finished product pictures for Blog, ATTN: Melody” in the subject line. In the body of the email, please reference the part number and name of the item, as well as any custom millwork we may have done. We’ll mention you (and your business, if applicable) on the post featuring that item. Items we’ve done already include the 1322 and the 1456.
Welcome to the second (albeit mildly delayed) post in the new weekly series. Today we are focusing on the 1456, the Classic Reeded Island leg.
Recently, a customer found a use for one of these legs that - although it was a brilliant setting - I had never thought of before. He sent us a picture of this lovely Bible stand he had made with our leg, as a gift to his church.

Now, he made a few embellishments to the top square, and set it with these lovely pedestal feet, and suddenly something that is typically only seen as a support to a kitchen island has a whole new life.
This leg is perfectly elegant, with the long reeded section adding to its slender, though strong, appearance. The spools on top and on bottom are the ideal transition between the graceful turning section and the more sturdy looking top and bottom squares. This customer made an excellent choice, don’t you think?
