These simple yet elegant corbels are perfect for cabinets, bars, mantles, or even shelving and they mix and blend beautifully with our other products. The thoughtful inclusion of metal adds sophistication, style and exceptional character to cabinet work. Our initial offering includes the Antique Chelsea that features a light scrolling that is reminiscent of the metalwork associated with nineteenth century Italianate pieces. Our Lincolnshire design is a hefty piece that would blend well with work that includes our heavier turned wood products. Our Florentine scroll combines simplicity and movement with a single stylized "S" turn. Decorative Corbels and Brackets

Corbels have long been an integral part of architecture. Throughout the centuries, these subtle and yet very strong architectural components lend their support to extruding surfaces, giving these surfaces the much needed ability to bear weight. Corbels get their name from the Old French word based on the Latin "corvellus." Corvellus is Latin for "raven," which indicates that corbels are named for their beak-like shape.

While these much needed components were originally made from concrete or stone, the Victorian Era ushered in the concept of wooden corbels. Able to be made much smaller than their stone counterparts, this allowed for the use of corbels to spread from the libraries and cathedrals, into smaller community buildings and even an individual's home, while allowing for another transition. Originally, corbels were primarily a creature of function. Though often still made with artistry in mind, they were mainly an invention born of necessity. With the advent of wooden corbels, design became a primary feature. Instead of structural corbels that were also decorative, the focus changed. Now corbels were seen as mainly decorative, though also structural.

Decorative wood corbels offer a tremendous versatility in design, with myriad possibilities for both the style of the carving and the subject itself. From corbels featuring lifelike characters such as an angel, a horse, or even a serene but stately lion, to more classic designs resembling a still life - a cluster of grapes or a delicately carved leaf; Osborne Wood Products is sure to carry a decorative corbel perfectly suited to your next project. Also available in the realm of decorative corbels are metal corbels. With sleek design and uniquely intriguing shape, metal corbels offer a decorative touch perfectly suited to accenting stone, concrete, granite, and even many types of wood.

As for decorative wood brackets or corbels, perhaps one of the broadest genres carried at Osborne Wood Products is Greco-Roman. Though specific designs may vary slightly; the same basic scrolling pattern from the widest part to the narrowest ties these many designs together. Whether acanthus leaf detail, lush clusters of grapes, an intricate basket weave, or even the sleek and simple classic design; the overarching shape brings a unity to corbels even so diverse in style as these. Even many of the corbels that do not fall into one of these specific design categories still bear the overall shape that pays homage to perhaps one of the most influential eras of design history.

Still another set of styles are more modern. From the Contemporary Wood Brackets to the rustic Mission corbels, simple and clean lines are the distinctive feature. With distinctly modern selections such as the Chesapeake corbels, and turn of the century styles such as the Traditional Bracket; even in this seemingly simple category there is much to choose from. Adding artistic corbels such as the aforementioned Angel Corbel to the selection, and it is clear that Osborne Wood Products is a cut above the rest when it comes to offering a diverse and high quality selection of beautiful hand carved corbels.

As with all of our products, you offer these in a broad range of wood types to accomodate your needs so you can order anything from maple brackets for a lighter grain or oak corbels for heavier graining. It's all available for you to choose.
