Drill
a ¾ hole that is 1” deep in the top of the bun foot.
hole in the bottom of your piece. Ideally you
should drill the hole 1 deep but if the bottom material
is thinner than 1 allow ¼ of material between the
bottom of your hole and the bottom of your material. For example
if your material is ¾ thick you should drill a hole that
is ½ deep.
Next you need to determine
the length of your dowel. Simply add the depths of your two holes
to get this figure. For instance if the depth of the hole in the
bun foot is 1 and in your piece ¾ then the combined
depth would be 1 ¾. It is a good idea to make your
dowel 1/16 shorter than this combined total allowing room
for error. Once this is done cut the dowel to desired length, put
wood glue into the hole in the bun foot and then insert dowel.
Put a small amount of glue in your
piece then assemble.
