The size of the cleat might be determined by the size of screw
you want to use. Shown here is a cleat ¾ inch thick by
1 inch wide. The screws we use are 1 ¼ long. We are adjusting
the depth of our pre-drilled holes accordingly.
A cleat
is a strip of wood to attach the skirt to the tabletop.
Note that
we have drilled both visible sides.
For the strongest possible joint, glue can be
added before putting in screws. This is just one possible method
of attaching the cleat. However you do it, the objective is to
have a strong joint. If you need directions for attaching the
metal corner bracket (our part #901), please click here.
When attaching
the cleat to the skirt, it is helpful to have the cleat slightly
above the bottom edge of the skirt, leaving a lip as shown. This
way the cleat will not stop the skirt from touching the tabletop.
Center the skirt-leg
assembly on the tabletop and screw it in place.
