Before
you start, you should have pieces that look like this. Make sure
that they all fit by putting them on without glue first. The fits
should be snug with no space left over. Bar clamps are useful in
holding the molding in place while you put the other pieces on.
This is a good fit. All of the corners should look like this.
This is
the underside of the table. If a piece is to long, trim it down,
but be very careful not to take off to much.
We use Gorilla Glue™ for this application
because it is a \"filler\" glue; it foams and fills all
the gaps for a tight fit. It is also marketed as interior/exterior
glue, and says it is the strongest wood glue available.
Lightly dampen the
surfaces of the wood (as needed) with water. We have found that
a clean paintbrush works well for creating an even coat.
Apply glue to surfaces as needed. Please be sure to follow manufacturers
instructions. These can be found on the glue bottle.
Bar clamps
are good for getting a tight joint.
These pads
are available at most hardware or home and garden stores. They can
save your wood from scratches. If you can\'t get these, a shop rag
or piece of cardboard might be used.
Find a brad
size that fits snugly into the pre-drilled holes.
