This bracket
will require 45-degree cuts. You will need to determine your best
options based on the width of the corner bracket, size of available
miter saw or table saw, and the type of stock used.
We have used a miter saw for illustration purposes. These are
two ways you could make the 45-degree cuts.
Determine
where skirts will be attached on the legs.
Measure the desired length of the corner bracket.
Be sure
to measure the corner bracket at its longest point. Keep in mind
the thickness of the wood you are going to use, and distance from
the inside of the leg.
Cut your
45-degree angle.
Take it off the saw and make a mark on the edge where you need
to cut it. Carefully position the block so you will be cutting
on your mark.
This is
what the bracket looks like after you are done cutting it.
This is another way you could have your saw set up.
Carefully
mark the location and depth of the screw hole. Shown here is bit
we will use for illustration.
Here are
several bits that could be used. The type of bit we recommend
is called a counter bore bit. This type of bit has two stages,
so the screw-head has a stopping point.
Extend
the line across the face of the bracket as shown.
Mark where
you want the center of your screw holes to be.
Mark the
center (lengthwise) of the face.
Mark the
center of the width along the face.
The next
step is to drill the screw holes you have marked. Because they are
on a 45-degree angle, it is helpful to use a jig something like
this one. This will help support the bracket while you are drilling.
