On the
left is a standard belt sander, to the right is a standard air powered
random orbital sander. The amount of molding you have to sand off
will determine what type of sander you use. Whatever sander you
use, it is of utmost importance to use extreme care not to
sand anything off the plywood tabletop. Most veneers are remarkably
thin.
This picture shows a belt sander. Carefully sand the molding
almost flush with the tabletop, and be very careful not
to sand the plywood tabletop.
This picture
shows the random orbital sander. With this type of sander, less
wood is taken off. Because of that, it is easier to know when to
stop sanding.
The black
circle is sanded correctly. The white circle is sanded to deep and
has exposed the plywood core.
