Osborne Builder's Studio: Installing Threaded Inserts to Attach Furniture Feet

Builder's StudioTable Slides & HardwareGalleryHow ToFAQ

In this video, we are going to show you how to install furniture feet (bun feet) using threaded inserts! Osborne's Threaded Inserts offer an easy solution to installing bun feet, table legs, corner posts, and much more. With the Hex Head design, all you need to install these is a 7/16" drill bit and 5/16" Hex Wrench.

Simply predrill a hole slightly smaller than the 1/2" barrel width (aprox. 7/16"), countersink using the 5/16" hex or Alan wrench, and install your desired hanger bolt!

Other items needed:

  • Hanger Bolts (option to have pre-installed)

  • Drill

  • ½” drill bit

  • Tape

  • Staple gun

  • Knife

Assembly Instructions

Step 1 - Expose installation area

Pull back furniture fabric that is in the desired area where the threaded inserts will be attached.

Step 2 - Assess limitations

Assess the furniture limitations. Make sure there is enough material to work with, so the hanger bolts or inserts do not bust through the inside and mess up the interior storage.

Step 3 - Add tape to drill bit

Attach the threaded insert onto the Allen wrench or drill tool head and position the insert over the hole that you pre drilled. Tighten the insert down until the top of the insert is just below the surface of the wood.

Step 4 - Create pilot holes

Drill into the furniture piece at the proper depth using a ½” drill bit.

Step 5 - Install the threaded insert

Take the threaded insert and ensure that the end that is closest to you is the allen head side. Lock in the 5/16” allen key to the threaded insert. With the allen key, screw the threaded insert into the pilot hole.

Step 6 - Reapply the furniture fabric

Staple the fabric in place. Make a hole through the fabric on the threaded insert that was just installed. This can just be done with a pencil.

Step 7 - Add furniture feet and trim fabric

Screw the furniture feet into the threaded insert. Take a knife and trim the excess fabric.
