Osborne Builder's Studio: Kitchen Island Table Skirt
In this episode of Builder's Studio, Tim demonstrates the proper method of assembling a custom table base kit from Osborne Wood Products. Many of our wooden table legs have the option to add a custom table skirt when purchasing. These kits are tailored to the leg of your choice and build specifications such as table top size and desired overhang. The simple process of creating a custom table base kit allows you to easily add extra support to your project.
Assembly Instructions
Materials Used:
(4) Island Legs of your choice (with mortises)
2.5” screws
(4) Corner Blocks
(4) Bolts
Top Skirt Boards (with tenons & pre-drilled pocket holes)
Bottom Skirt Boards (with tenons & pre-drilled pocket holes)
Other Items Needed:
Wood glue
Drill
Tape Measure
Step 1 - Dry fit the items
Do some basic dry fitting to see if you like the fit of the products. Wood responds to environmental factors, which may affect the fit of the product.
Step 2 - Add glue and connect mortise/tenon joints
Apply glue in the mortise and tenon joinery to connect the island legs to the top and bottom skirt boards. Ensure the skirt boards are attached with the pre-drilled pocket holes facing up. You may need to use a mallet to ensure the skirt boards are secure.
Step 3 - Drill the top and bottom skirt boards to the legs
Drill in the top and bottom skirt boards to the island legs, utilizing the pre-drilled pocket holes.
Step 4 - Attach corner blocks
Glue the corner blocks on the inside of each leg to the top skirt boards. Twist in a bolt to securely attach the corner block to the island leg. There are pre-existing holes in the corner block and island leg for the bolt to fit into. Drill in 2 screws to each side of the corner block, where the top skirt board meets the block.
Step 5 - Repeat
Complete last step for remaining three legs.
