Osborne reclaims a piece of history with custom project

Reclaiming a piece of history, Osborne Wood Products created furniture components using remnants of the Historic Coney Island Boardwalk. The boardwalk was created with a very dense mildew and decay resistant wood called Ipe, or Brazilian Walnut. This unique wood species is often used for coastal construction as its unique character properties allow it to last for decades. Vermont Store Fixtures, a customer of Osborne Wood Products, recently sent a request to create a simple yet modern design using these reclaimed pieces.

The Ipe pieces were shipped to the Osborne facility in Toccoa where the drafting department and production team worked together to design and construct 60 components for the customer. The legs will eventually be set in table fixtures for one of Vermont Store Fixture’s clients.

Drafting engineer Haden Smith is excited about this project. Smith notes, “Custom sales are important to us because they are important to our customers. Their ideas often times have to be created and we are able to bridge the gap between an idea and a finished product for our customers consistently and easily”

When many customers expect companies to create such an important project in a matter of weeks, Osborne has significantly decreased the time it takes to create custom products. Smith adds, “we have a great process in place that allows our lead-time to be as few as a couple of hours in some cases.”

Allowing customers to break from the norm and create a wholly unique design is an integral part of the customer service offered at Osborne Wood Products. By offering custom solutions, fast turnaround time, and superior quality, Osborne continues to collaborate with unique and historic projects across the nation.
