Pearl Beading is the Finishing Touch on Museum Replica
The beautifully crafted device above is a replica of a 19th century quack-medical/arcade mechanism, housed in the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention in Bellingham, WA. It is an interactive device known as “Electricity is Life” that has a brass ball on either side of the diamond-shaped frame. After inserting a coin, when the user pushes one of the brass balls down, they receive a small electric shock, and the more they push the ball down, the higher the shock! They were sold from 1899 to 1909, and were advertised as both a strength tester and electrical therapy device. It stands about 20″ tall.
We want to thank John Jenkins, a major contributor for the Spark Museum, for sending us this photo that features Osborne Wood Products Beaded Moulding, part 891357, around the edge of the frame. John built the device from 4/4 red oak, and said our pearl beading was just perfect to finish off the diamond frame.
