Rustic Table Using Knotty Pine Legs & Skirting Set
This week we received not only fantastic finished project pictures of a dining table project, but an accompanying write-up so perfect that we decided to let our customer, Joseph B. of Fredericksburg, Virginia, do the talking!
“We had been disappointingly unsuccessful in finding a suitable rustic dining table to compliment our set of 2-tone, spindle back, Windsor chairs. We were trying to find a pre-made or salvaged/antique farm table. We searched all of the logical locations: antique shops, furniture stores, garage and yard sales and more. No one seemed to have the look or scale that we were looking for. Our search efforts drove us to a logical conclusion: we needed to build our own table.
We wanted the table to have a substantial, “meaty” look and feel to it. We decided on a top made from standard dimensional pine with a distressed, aged look in lieu of salvaged barn wood. The search for table base materials initially began to look like it was going to be as frustrating and fruitless as the table searches until we found Osborne Wood Products. We found the perfect set of dining table legs with the exact style and scale we were looking for. With a few mouse clicks, the legs and custom sized apron were on their way.
The top is biscuit joined 2 x 10s with purposely non-precise joinery for added character. The top was fired with a blow torch in a random pattern to bring out the grain detail. Final finishing of the top was a few coats of butcher block oil. The legs (Osborne Husky Dining Table Leg 29 x 5, #1109 in Knotty Pine) and apron with round over profile were finished in an onyx flat stain to match the chairs. Final assembly was extremely simple since the Osborne apron kits come with holes predrilled and hardware is included. Final dimensions are 46” x 90” with a 4”overhang.
We are extremely pleased with the outcome of this project. It was exactly what we wanted. Osborne made it possible and will be our first stop for all future projects. Thank you!”
