Osborne Celebrates Summer Intern's Progress
Summer is rapidly coming to a close, and with it comes the beginning of fall and school. With the start of school comes saying ‘goodbye’ to our summer marketing intern, Nicholas Englert, who is finishing his last semester as a business student at Piedmont College this coming fall.
Internships have become a mainstream necessity for many students looking to have an edge in the competitive job search environment when they graduate. Internships allow for crucial networking and an avenue for gaining professional recommendations. The most essential reason for an internship, however, is the valuable real-world working experience cultivated through it. In a recent study by the NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers), 95% of employers said that candidate experience is a factor in hiring decisions. Almost half also wanted the job experience to come from internships or co-ops.
As a company, Osborne Wood Products prides itself on hiring top quality candidates both as employees and interns. As such, there is no issue with giving the interns vital job tasks to do under an experienced supervisor’s watch. Nic experienced this first hand, as his summer at Osborne was filled with essential projects such as managing the Google Ads campaigns, assisting with the creation of a new catalog, performing website updates, and even traveling to help present at a tradeshow in South Carolina. “I worked on a lot of extensive projects throughout the summer, and seeing how my coursework applied in real life applications was I think very valuable to the career moves I will make when I graduate.” Nic said of his time at Osborne. “My favorite parts of working here were that I got to do a lot of it on my own, but always knew I could ask for advice when I got stuck. It was a positive work environment, and that’s important when you’re just starting in a job or field, because you’re going to have a lot of questions and if you don’t feel comfortable asking for help, you could be set back.”
