Osborne Employees Participate in Local Mentoring Program
One of the many benefits offered to employees at Osborne Wood Products, Inc. is the opportunity to spend one hour each week at a local school with a student. This time is paid and was developed to encourage employees to participate in community support efforts. For the 2023-2024 school year, three employees participated in the mentoring program.
This program pairs certain individuals (who must be vetted, pass a background check and undergo training) with a student for the entire school year. A time and day is determined for the mentor and mentee to visit every week. The main goal is commitment – showing up consistently and for the full year. This may seem like a small task but that hourly commitment can result in grade and attendance improvements for many students.
Mentorship opportunities are available for eligible students in local elementary, middle and high schools. All three Osborne employees were partaking in their second year of mentorship and had several good things to say about their experience.
“It is humbling to see the difference a short one hour session each week can make in these kids’ lives,” said Emily Ramey. “I have had the privilege of mentoring the same student for two school years and their progress is wonderful to see. I look forward to continuing in the program in the coming years.”
Osborne Wood Products, Inc. has been a proponent of the local community since the company’s fruition and wants to make sure employees have accessible opportunities to support the community. Offering paid time off to participate in the local mentoring program is a great example of this and something the company hopes to grow over the next few years.
