Osborne Builder's Studio: Rustic Farmhouse Dining Table
In this video we are building a DIY rustic farmhouse dining table using an Osborne table base kit and project lumber. To give it a rustic appearance, we added a decorative wood glaze to the base to distress the paint. Follow along and check out the links below to view the products used!

Project Instructions:
Step 1
Using the Old World Dining Legs, assemble the table base kit according to the desired size in the table base builder. Follow the standard assembly process shown in the table base tutorial.
Step 2
Cut the 5/4 project lumber to length creating five 30” boards. Use a benchtop planer to bring each board down to a 1” thickness. This can be adjusted based on dimensions of your project.
Step 3
Arrange the boards to your preferred orientation and mark them. To give the boards a traditional plank table look, add a small round-over to each board edge with a hand router.
Step 4
Mark four dowel locations using a straightedge and drill holes with a doweling jig. Adjust the amount of dowels based on the size of your project.
Step 5
Add the wooden dowels with wood glue. These can be tapped into place slightly using a hammer, but be sure to avoid using too much force to prevent breakage. Once the dowels are inserted, apply some glue along each seam. Since these will have a large ridge, you want to remove as much glue squeeze out as possible before it dries. Clamp the tabletop and allow it to dry.
Step 6
Apply a base coat of white paint to the base. Once dry, lightly distress the paint with sandpaper, then brush on a glaze. Buff off the excess glaze with a rag to achieve a rustic look. Sand the table top to 150 grit, then apply a wood stain of choice. Add a polyurethane coat for extra protection.
Step 7
Finally, place the table base on the bottom side of the table top making sure to center with proper overhang. Using pre-drilled pocket screws, secure the base to the top.
