Osborne Builder's Studio: Custom Table Build with Reeded Pedestal Base
In these two episodes of Builder's Studio, Sara builds a stunning table with the Reeded Pedestal Kit from Osborne Wood Products. This popular design can be used for simple, elegant and even modern builds. The first video explains how to assemble the kit once you receive it. The second video provides an easy solution to building a custom table. Sara demonstrates installing a table skirt to a table top and using the Pedestal Kit Extender to attach the pedestal base to the table top.
Assembling the Reeded Pedestal Base

Assembly Instructions:
Step 1 - Take off hardware
Take all of the nuts and washers off the pedestal feet.
Step 2 - Add feet to center
Add the foot to the pedestal center and re-attach the nuts and washers. Repeat this for all four pedestal feet.

Please note: This installation will not work for every project. Round tops or projects with no apron may require separate hardware. Plywood cross beams with pocket holes or table slides could be used to aid in the attachment process but elements of those methods may be seen if a custom apron is not created.
Assembly Instructions:
Step 1 - Assemble pedestal base
This kit utilizes an assembled Reeded Pedestal. To assemble this pedestal base, follow the steps above.
Step 2 - Create table apron
In order to hide the pedestal attachment underneath the table top, we decided to create a custom table apron with mitered corners. We had a custom 36” square table top created for this build and planned for a 2” overhang on all four sides. This left a length of 32” across for the skirt boards.
Step 3 - Cut skirt boards to size and add pocket holes
Cut the skirt boards to size and drill pocket holes (if preferred) using a pocket hole jig for easy attachment to the table top. For this build, we added four pocket holes to each skirt board.
Step 4 - Stain boards
Stain the skirt boards. While drying, mark on the underside of the table where you would like the skirt boards to be installed.
Step 5 - Pre-drill
Once dry, place the skirt upside down onto the bottom of the table top with all pieces snugly fit together. Pre-drill using the pocket holes before installing screws. You can use a clamp during this process to ensure the boards stay still.
Step 6 - Attach pedestal kit extender
Once the apron is attached, you can add the pedestal kit extender to the underside of the tabletop. This kit includes three pieces (two runner boards and a center plate). All of these pieces will have predrilled holes.
Step 7 - Mark areas for runner boards
With your assembly still upside down, place the runner boards inside the apron with the larger holes facing up. Measure where these will go to ensure the full kit will be centered and make marks accordingly.
Step 8 - Install screws
Install screws into the existing holes on the runner boards and attach them to the bottom of the tabletop. Make sure the screws used here are not long enough to go through the tabletop surface.
Step 9 - Add center plate
The center plate of the kit extender has various holes to accommodate multiple pedestals. There are small holes on the outer edge of the plate on one side which will attach to the runner boards. Place your pedestal base on the ground and add the center plate using the existing holes. Make sure the side with the small holes on the outer edge of the plate is facing downward.
Step 10 - Tighten
Add the included nuts and washers to the bolts and tighten.
Step 11 - Flip the assembly upside down
Flip the pedestal base upside down onto the assembly and place it so that the center plate meets up with the runner boards inside the table apron.
Step 12 - Attach plate to runner boards
Attach the center plate to the runner boards.
