Shaker Style Island Re-Purpose

Cabinet & Furniture FeetGallery

Starting something for the first time is never easy; it usually takes a couple of practice runs to be able to do something well. But this wasn’t the case for our friend Scot. His proud wife, Jill, sent us some pictures of his first furniture project, and it looks like he’s a natural at it!

Scot and Jill had an antique oak mission style table they wanted to turn into their new kitchen island. Scot made a new base for it, then began looking for some matching feet to complete the shaker style look. When they found Osborne’s Tall Tapered Mission Bunfeet (Part #4089), they knew it was a perfect match! By combining the 6″ tall feet and the new base, Scot was able to raise the originally 29″ table to 36″. He then stained Osborne’s feet to match the original table.

The tapered mission style feet brings a lovely element of the Arts and Crafts vibe to the table, and at 4″ wide tapering to 3″ has more than enough strength and stability for whatever the kitchen island is called to hold. The foot takes the strong geometrical vibes of the tapered foot style, and reinforces the mission style aspect of it by outlining the perimeter edges of each face with scaled routing, creating a handsome elongated foot. This traditional foot would blend perfectly in many room settings, including contemporary, shaker, modern, and arts and crafts!
