Exposed Tenons are Ingenious Construction for Rustic Island
Once in awhile we discover something new and creative in the construction of tables and kitchen islands, and we are fascinated with the double-exposed tenons at each corner of this rustic island. Our friends over at Arcadian Cottage get serious bragging rights with this one, designing an exposed tenon for each skirtboard at each island corner, and it is pretty ingenious how they did it. Each (deep) skirtboard has an extended tenon at either the upper or lower half of the board, which prevents the the two boards from intersecting each other at the corner. Only a small portion of the tenon extends from the face of the leg, which is our Concord Island Post, part 1471. We love how the tiny bit of the skirtboard is beautifully rounded and finished for a rustic look, that blends right in with the rustic finish of the island.
