Sleek Installation of Island Leg to Stone Countertop with Floor Anchor

Our friend Matt over at Crossgrain327 just finished a masterful kitchen using Osborne’s Lakeland Island leg, part 2474. Normally, skirtboards are used between the island legs, and also between the legs and the cabinets to form a secure attachment. But we just love the clean lines of how this leg is attached to the bottom of the stone countertop, and asked Matt how he prevented movement of the leg, since it appears to be just propped in place. He shared some hidden millwork that makes all the difference in providing a secure, firm attachment.

He anchored the bottom of the leg to the floor by drilling through the flooring and into the concrete to attach a bolt, then installed some hardware to accept the bolt into a countersunk hole on the bottom of the leg. Just twist in place and voila–the leg is not going to move! Add some silicone to the top of the leg as the stone is put into place, and your installation is complete.
