Assembly Steps:

Step 1 - Gather materials

Source all of the materials and supplies needed for this project. See supply list above for the items used in this build.

Step 2 - Measure walls & determine moulding location

Use a measuring tape to determine the length of the walls where you plan to install the chair rail moulding. Note down the measurements.

Step 3 - Determine moulding height

Choose a height that suits your preference and the proportions of the room. Use a pencil and level to mark the desired height along the wall.

Tip: Chair rail is typically installed 36”- 40” from the floor.

Step 4 - Locate studs in wall

Next, use the stud finder to mark off the precise location of the studs in the wall.

Step 5 - Cut the moulding

Use a miter saw to make precise 45-degree angle cuts at the corners of the moulding where you marked the required length.

Step 6 - Add adhesive

Apply liquid nail or construction adhesive of your choice along the back of the chair rail moulding. This will help secure it to the wall.

Step 7 - Place the chair rail moulding on the wall

Carefully place the chair rail moulding against the wall, aligning it with the pencil marks you made earlier. Use a level to ensure the moulding is straight.

Step 8 - Secure with adhesive

As you secure the moulding to the wall with adhesive, reinforce its placement by using a nail gun to fasten it to the studs at the designated marks you made earlier.

Step 9 - Fill holes with caulk

Once the chair rail moulding is installed, fill any nail holes and gaps between the moulding and the wall with caulk. Smooth the caulk with a damp cloth or your finger for a neat finish.

Step 10 - Let dry and apply finish!

When the caulk dries down, apply the finish of your choice and your installation is complete!
