Builder's Studio: Shanty2Chic Coffee Table Kit Assembly

In this Builder's Studio, Sara is demonstrating how to build a beautiful farmhouse coffee table made with the help of our friends Ana White & Shanty2Chic! This Shanty2Chic Coffee Table is available as a full table kit from Osborne!

Assembly Instructions

Overall Dimensions: 19 ½" × 38 ½" × 38 ½"

What we used:

  • (4) Top skirt boards with tenons (has pre-drilled pocket holes)

  • (4) Bottom skirt boards (has pre-drilled pocket holes)

  • Planks for table top and bottom shelf (do not have pocket holes pre-drilled)

  • Attachment screws

  • (4) Shanty2Chic Coffee Table legs with mortises

Other items needed:

  • Kreg Jig

  • Drill

  • Wood glue

  • Clamps

Step 1 - Attach top skirt boards to table legs

Assemble the top skirt boards to the Shanty2Chic Coffee Table legs. Apply wood glue to the mortise and tenon joinery to attach the top skirt boards and legs. Drill the top skirt boards and Shanty2Chic Coffee Table legs together using the pre-drilled pocket holes. Ensure the pre-drilled pocket holes are facing up.

Step 2 - Add bottom skirt boards

Assemble the bottom skirt boards to the Shanty2Chic Coffee Table legs. Drill the bottom skirt boards into the coffee table legs using the pre-drilled pocket holes.

Step 3 - Attach end boards

Attach the end boards for the bottom shelf. Drill the underside of the end boards into the bottom skirt boards.

Step 4 - Create pocket holes in middle boards

Take all 5 middle boards for the bottom shelf and create pocket holes on the underside of each. Create pocket holes on the left, middle, and right side.

Step 5 - Attach middle boards

Align the middle boards using a clamp with the bottom facing up. Screw these boards together using the pocket holes that were just created. Attach the middle boards of the bottom shelf to the coffee table. Drill the bottom skirt boards into the middle boards using pre-drilled pocket holes on the bottom skirt boards.

Step 6 - Create pocket holes for the top shelf

Align the table top boards with the bottom facing up to mark the pocket hole drill locations. Create pocket holes on the underside of the top shelf, similar to step 4.

Tip: This is a breadboard style table top, so there are two crossboards at each end. They are pocket-holed differently than the middle boards.

Step 7 - Screw the table top together

Clamp the table top together to hold it in place. Screw the table top together with the pocket holes that were created.

Step 8 - Attach the table top and base

Attach the table top to the coffee table base using the pre-drilled pocket holes in the top skirt boards.
