In this episode of the Builder's Studio, Jonah finishes our Baron table and bench build by applying a gorgeous gel stain. Watch to see tips and tricks for applying this stain which is a great option for harder and denser woods.
Products featured in this build:
- Baron Trestle Table Base (Part #378872) *sold individually
- Baron Trestle Bench Base (Part #378864) *sold as a pair
- Recessed V Stabilizer Bar
- Gel stain
Instructions
This process can vary depending on the products you use and the project materials. We encourage you to complete a few tests before making the final decision on how you would like to finish your project. It is also important to note that if your project will be used for dining purposes, it may be best to apply a clear coat on top of the stain.
Items Used:
General Finishes Gel Stain (we used Brown Mahogany)
Sander with 220 grit paper
Painter’s rags (brushes can also be used but may be messier)
Gloves
Instructions:
Step 1
Sand the unfinished wood surfaces to 220 grit. When sanding, be sure to use even and smooth motions in the direction of the wood grain.
Step 2
Now, you can apply your gel stain with a rag or brush. Make sure to wear gloves during this process. We did this in small sections by applying the stain and letting it sit for a minute before wiping it with a clean rag.
Step 3
Let the stain dry.
