The Many Uses of Maple
Mark Sheidenberger of Sheidenberger Woodworks in Saugus, California, decided to share two more finished projects with us this week. Mark sent along details of two very different projects, yet both projects show the versatility, not only of Mark’s creativity and the Osborne products, but of soft maple as well.
The first project showcases our Square Mission Island Legs (Part #1745) which Mark used on a kitchen island to support the countertop. The legs add the perfect touch of elegance to the kitchen, and the soft maple shows off its lovely color. While we don’t recommend the soft maple for staining because of the mineral streaking in it, it can be done if the stain being used is a very dark one.
The second project shows the more traditional usage of soft maple as a paint grade wood. Mark used our Large Half Round Plinth with Spool (Part #7200) with our Large Reeded Half Round Dowel Moulding (Part #7205) to frame a kitchen oven and microwave. Applying the spools and molding on either side of the appliances gives depth to the cabinets and adds the finishing touch to this kitchen. Thank you, Mark!
