Kitchen Island Design for Remodeled 1800's Farm House
A home remodel can be an immense amount of work. From designing to creating to the finished product, both time and a whole lot of thought go into remodeling the home. But at the end of the project the final result makes everything worth while!
Today, I want to feature a kitchen island that was built for a home remodel by David H of Hedrick Design in Minnesota. David chose to use Osborne Plantation Buffet Island Posts in alder (Part #1498). He also used the Medium Squat Round Bun Foot (Part #4115) to finish off the bottom of the leg. And here is how David created this beautiful piece:
“I’ve been remodeling my 1800’s farm house for so long, I am now in the final stages of re-remodeling. I decided to replace the old island with this one which is a modification of one I saw in a showroom display….mine is nicer tho.
On the legs, I simply trimmed the bottom corners (I think at about 15 degree) and then sanded them round so as to replicate the top profile. I then glued and pin nailed a bun foot to the bottom of each leg. Rather simple actually. Then, for added strength, I set a 3 1/2” screw thru the center of each foot.
The profile at the top of the opening replicates the profile of the cabinet opening above the refrigerator as well as the one on the range vent hood. The two drawer panels on the opposite side attach to slide out drawers, but the one on the end tilts down to expose the electric receptacles.
The unit is made from rustic alder and finished with three coats of lacquer. The countertop is soapstone.”
Thank you so much for sharing your project with us David! And thank you for choosing Osborne for your kitchen island. Enjoy your beautiful island and home.
