The acanthus leaves that adorn the Islander with Acanthus Leaves Island Post first appeared in art of ancient Greece in the 4th and 5th centuries. Acanthus leaves are typically used in the Corinthian order of Greek architecture for capitals of beautiful columns. The oldest example of a Corinthian column with acanthus leaves is in the Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae in Arcadia, circa 450-420 B.C.E. This island leg has the same beautiful intricate leaf detail that will give any room an extra sense of elegance. It is 34 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide, with top and bottom blocks for additional functionality. The traditional Islander Island Post (Part #1450) profile is one of our most popular, but this variation is unique due to the splash of delicately carved acanthus leaves at the top of the tapered center. This sophisticated element will bring dimension and flair to your design!
Our wooden island legs are offered in a range of wood species, depending on your preference. They will be sanded to 150 grit and ready for you to apply your choice of wood stain or paint as the finishing touch!
